It’s quite a mess that mis-sold PPI made, resulting into more than £4 billion paid out with more on the way as more and more people are becoming informed about obtaining compensation. But while a lot of complaints are being filed, it has to be pointed out that PPI, or payment protection insurance, was created with a good purpose in mind. Essentially, PPI is an insurance policy that is taken out with a loan or credit card approval to provide the lender with protection in the event that the policyholder becomes incapable of making monthly payments as agreed for whatever reason but usually due to sickness or loss of employment. PPI claims only come into the picture when you are insufficiently informed about what is PPI when you took out the policy or when you don’t know that you are paying for premiums about a policy that you are unaware of. Complaints are also filed for policies that have been forced on people in order to ensure the approval of their loan.

To get started, you have to first determine whether or not you have a case. The above-mentioned conditions are the main reasons that will make you eligible to make a complaint but there are all sorts of scenarios that you may possibly fall under. Just to get you started, keep in mind that you are likely to be eligible when your lender tricks you in any way to take out a PPI policy. If you’re not sure if you have been mis-sold a PPI policy, you can check your loan statements for proof. Typically, charges for PPI premiums will be labelled as “loan care”, “payment cover”, or anything similar. If you see that in your statement but don’t remember agreeing to taking out a PPI policy, you can file for PPI claims. Take note too that the best time to file for PPI claims is within six years that the policy was taken out. You can still file for PPI claims when your policy has already lapsed but be mindful that you will have lower chances of success. You can also file for a refund within three years of becoming aware that you have been mis-sold a PPI policy.

Sure that you’re eligible to file for PPI claims? It’s time to write a letter of complaint to your lender to inform them of your situation. Many banks have taken the initiative to write to customers they think have been mis-sold PPI so it’s possible that you might not have to write a letter. However, you don’t have to wait for your lender’s letter to take action. Some people also choose to enlist the help of specialist companies but there is really no need for that. You can gather all the information you need from government agencies anyway and you don’t have to pay for anything to file for a refund. Claims management companies will not make you pay if you don’t get anything out of filing PPI claims but they will ask for a percentage of your payout if you are successful. Wouldn’t you rather just keep all of your money from complaint?

Oral health is important for everyone, but it is particularly important for children because problems that occur in childhood can have long-lasting implications.

Poor oral health in children

Many people assume that oral health is not a priority for children because milk teeth are supposed to fall out; however, this is not the case and neglecting children’s dental teeth can cause the baby teeth to be lost prematurely, which spells trouble for the future. If the baby teeth are lost too early, this causes the adult teeth to push through too soon, which can contribute to misalignment and a higher risk of damage and decay.

Decay is a very common problem among children, especially in today’s society, as children consume more sugar than ever before; decay can have devastating effects for a child. Not only is toothache painful, but it can also cause abscesses, which are very sore and premature tooth loss; in most cases, when a child needs a tooth extracting due to severe decay, the procedure has to be carried out under general anaesthetic in hospital, which carries risks and can be a very daunting scenario for children.

If the adult teeth push through prematurely, this can increase the risk of orthodontic problems, which will continue into the teenage and adult years, if they are not addressed. Orthodontic problems, such as protruding front teeth and crooked teeth, can be a great source of anxiety for children and teenagers and many children are bullied at school for similar issues; the implications of bullying in childhood can last a lifetime.

How do childhood problems affect adult life?

Many people who experienced dental problems during their childhood have issues in their adult life; they may have an increased risk of decay, they may have underlying worries about their oral health or the look of their smile and they may suffer from a lack of confidence; it is also common for adults who had dental work done during their childhood to suffer from anxiety and nervousness when they go to the dentist or they need dental treatment.

Solutions

Many of the issues that affect children are preventable and dentists urge parents to instill good oral hygiene habits in their children from an early age. Parents should supervise teeth cleaning and encourage their child to brush their teeth twice a day from as early an age as possible. Diet is also an important factor; sugar consumption is one of the major causes of decay in children and parents should restrict the amount of sugar their child consumes and the frequency they eat or drink sugary foods and drinks throughout the day. Regular dental visits are essential for good oral health and children should have 6 monthly check-ups from the age of 12 months old.

Orthodontic problems are very common among children and it is often best to arrange treatment during the early teenage years; if you leave issues untreated, they tend to get worse and will affect the look of your smile and your confidence in later life. This could lead to the need for braces but there are braces that are discreet and even ones the focus on correcting the ‘social six’.

When most people think of a work accident, they automatically think of a fight for financial fairness. However, you can make sure that if you ever suffer an accident that you won’t end up wasting precious energy on getting the compensation that you deserve while you try to recover.

Getting expert legal representation from reputable solicitors, such as Irwin Mitchell is a key factor. It is in most cases the deciding factor in obtaining work accident compensation. However, if you want to explore your options before you come to the point of filing a legal claim, here’s how to do so.

Sort out what you have to do. Your preparation for an accident at work actually begins on your first day on the job. If this sounds a bit premature, just consider that employers are required to have a plan for employees who are injured on the job through no fault of their own. You should be proactive in finding out what your employer’s sick pay is, as well as familiarising yourself with the procedure for receiving this sick pay.

Raise concerns about hazards before they become accidents. The best way to safeguard against financial ruin from an accident at work is to make sure that one never happens. Even with safety guidelines, there could still be hazards in your work area. If you see something potentially dangerous or harmful, make sure to apprise your employer of it because he or she may make the rules, but that doesn’t mean your boss has the ability to spot out every safety concern.

Know the role of the legal system in your claim. You will receive government-mandate sick pay if you have an accident at work to help you recover some of your lost earnings, but it may not be enough to help you make ends meet. The law also mandates that your employer cannot retaliate against you by firing you if you pursue a work accident claim to make up for the rest of your income, so there’s no need to fear negative consequences if you seek compensation through the proper channels. While it’s best to try to work out a plan with your employer, you can rest easy knowing that you always have legal recourse as a last resort.

Know what your employer has agreed to. Many employers have an additional sick pay scheme for their workers, which would save you the stress of filing a claim for compensation. Find out if your company is one of them, and then find out how much you would be entitled to so that you can make financial plans for your recovery time.

Keep track of your expenses. Whether you receive compensation from the government, willingly from your employer or as the result of a work accident claim, you will want to keep track of all your expenses, especially those that involve costs for private health care or rehabilitation. In the best case scenario, you won’t need them, but they could help you prove just how much money you need to survive if your compensation ever comes into question.

When you hear the words ‘sports massage’, you assume it’ll be a service that only caters to professional sports players, focusing on treatment that will benefit the client’s performance in their chosen sport. However, this isn’t strictly true. While it certainly does specialise in massage tailored to help sports performance and recovery from injury, it can also be beneficial to anyone who exercises, no matter to what skill level.

Just a few of the issues that sports massage deals with are:

Circulation and blood flow: By massaging the body, you can improve your circulation and lymphatic flow throughout. Stimulating the blood vessels under the skin encourages the blood to flow faster and stronger throughout the body, resulting in better circulation and subsequently better mobility.

Nerve endings: Massage can also do the same for nerve endings, by similarly stimulating them into action!

Muscle length: Sports massages can subtly increase or decrease muscle length depending on your needs. Remember that it’s only a professional sports masseuse that has the skills, knowledge and experience to do this – any DIY attempts may do more damage than good!

These are just three of the many benefits of sports massages. As you can see, they are three features that could greatly benefit everyday mobility and function, not just in the professional sporting field but around the home also. If you are recovering from a past injury that keeps giving you trouble, or even just wanting to improve the mobility of aging joints, sports massage can really help out.

In terms of where to find these kinds of services, it’s worth looking for physiotherapists. If you’re situated in the right place it won’t be difficult to find a sports injury clinic in London who offer physiotherapy services. If you’re somewhere a bit more remote, it’s worth checking out the website for the Sports Massage Association (SMA) which you can find here: http://www.thesma.org/. Their ‘find a practitioner’ page will help you find your nearest sports masseuse.

So if you have a niggling issues and stiff joints or whether you’re a professional sports player wanting to improve your performance, get a sports massage today and feel the benefit instantly!

If you are currently not experiencing all required benefits from your medical aid, it may be wise to look at switching to another scheme. Quite a few schemes offer insufficient cover for maternity and orthodontic treatment – benefits which are relatively common and important. Some South African Medical Aid schemes offer more cover for some things than others, such as oncology and prosthesis.

If you think you may want to change schemes, it is best to start looking early before you actually need the specific cover. If you later have a particular condition, there may be a waiting period involved for any new scheme.

In terms of maternity benefits, the birth will be covered by any scheme, but may not cover all required scans and check-ups. Some schemes are available which include up to 12 appointments as well as some appointments with a paediatrician after the birth.

The majority of schemes will not cover orthodontic treatment as it can be quite expensive. Some schemes have separate benefits for dentistry so that your savings are not affected. The treatments included under this include crowns and bridges, and root canal treatment.

If you do want to change your medical aid scheme, the first step is to select the scheme that most suits the requirements of you and your family. You will then need to give your current scheme one month’s notice of your leaving. In order to get on the new scheme an application form will need to be completed, and the terms of acceptance should be confirmed. This will ensure that there will be no gap in between the old scheme finishing and the new one starting.

The advantages of changing your medical aid scheme are that you can receive a better level of cover for certain things, as well as getting more benefits for your money. The downside is the waiting periods that could be imposed if you suffer from a chronic illness or if you have not had any form of cover for over two years.

Here at StudentMedics.co.uk, we see and hear about those who have been involved in accidents of one form or another on an almost daily basis. From those who have been involved in car accidents to those who have been the victim of an accident at work or a victim of medical negligence; it’s not pleasant whatever the outcome and, quite simply, when it isn’t the fault of the victim, they’re left in difficult circumstances. In such instances, we regularly make the suggestion that the victim puts in a compensation claim against whoever is responsible to at least get something back. It’s quite often the case that a victim has to be signed off work for weeks on end following an accident and it quite simply shouldn’t be the case that they loose out on wages because of something that wasn’t their fault.

When it comes to claiming compensation following an accident, however, victims need to be very careful in choosing a solicitor or legal team to handle their claim. Due to the nature of such legal cases, it’s always worth ensuring that case is taken on as a no win no fee compensation claim. In this respect, the victim will only pay legal fees if the case is a success and compensation is awarded and, to add to that, in most instances, the legal fees are covered by the other party as well.

It really does make sense to pursue a compensation claim following an accident which was caused by someone else, however serious it may be. It shouldn’t ever be the case that a victim isn’t compensated for their ordeal, especially if it goes on for a foreseeable length of time, and with a range of solicitors and lawyers now specialising in accident claims, it’s certainly possible to easily and quickly pursue a claim.

We’ve built up a decent list of established accident solicitors who work on a no win no fee basis over the year so for those looking for such a legal team, do not hesitate to drop us a line!

CALCIUM

A five-year study, released in February 2007, by Oxford University, showed that vegans have increased risk of bone breaks, as compared to both meat eaters and regular vegetarians.

The study deduced that this was in no small part due to a lack of proper calcium intake, as a result of the dairy-free aspect of the diet.

Indeed, it is recommended that vegans eat three servings per day of a high-calcium food, such as fortified soy milk and take a calcium supplement as necessary.

Fortified soy milk can also act a substitute for milk’s common role as a source of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is another nutrient that is important for bone formation, commonly added to commercial milk.

Although adequate amounts of Vitamin D can also be obtained by spending 15-to-30 minutes a day exposed to direct sunlight, this can be a difficult thing to achieve in geographic areas with low light levels during the long winter months.

IODINE

Iodine is, most abundantly, available through marine foodstuffs. However, adequate amounts of marine foods are not always available to be consumed by persons from all parts of the globe.

Many devel0ped nations, with significant land-locked areas often have state sponsored programs of iodized salt placement in food. China, India and the United States of America are just a few of these countries.

In Great Britain and Ireland, the major source of iodine is the milk produced by cattle, which, themselves, are given iodine-enriched feed.

A lack of proper iodine intake can present great risks. Iodine deficiency can cause hyperthyroidism, which leads to chronic tiredness, skin problems, tingling sensations in the extremities and elevated cholesterol levels.

Due to these serious issues, the British Vegan Society recommends iodine supplementation. The substance can be readily obtained from kelp. Kelp tablets are a popular example of vegan-friendly vitamins, and just one or two week can be sufficient.

IBS stands for irritable bowel syndrome and is a disorder that can often creep up unknowingly. That’s because there are so many possible symptoms that are associated with it, leading us to often mistake it for mundane stomach or bowel problems. Things like diarrhoea, constipation, excessive flatulence (breaking wind), bloating and abdominal pain are merely some of the common symptoms that often get pegged as being normal. If you have any combination of these symptoms flare-up on you time and time again, it’s time to go check in with your doctor.

There are also some symptoms that can help narrow it down to IBS. Things like needing to empty your bowels again despite just having done so, mucus secretion from your bottom and being unable to hold it in (the urgent need to go to the toilet). Lastly, any of the symptoms mentioned previously combined with these warning signs require an immediate visit to the doctor. Unexplained weight loss, a swelling or lump in either your bottom or abdomen and bleeding from your bottom.

The symptoms aside, IBS can be downright painful, leaving us weak and bedridden. As if that weren’t enough the embarrassment that goes with it is nothing to scoff at either. Passing wind at inopportune moments gets down right irritating after awhile. For some people there’s some pain relief after bowel moment but that’s hardly a solution.

Luckily with a little search, I’ve been able to find a solution on the Colpermin website. They have this wonderful product called IBS Relief Capsule. It’s specially designed to relieve IBS symptoms. It uses peppermint oil, an antispasmodic (muscle spasm suppressant) that’s recently been proven by a British Medical Journal to be an effective treatment plan for IBS. But peppermint oil is useless if it can’t get to the affected area. Not to worry, the capsule is designed with a unique gel formula that delays the capsule from dissolving until it reaches the digestive tract, the main source of IBS symptoms. If you think you are suffering from IBS try check with IBS Symptom Checker on the Colpermin website.

Piles are inflamed haemorrhoids filled with blood vessels, muscle tissues and in some case pus. They are known to occur in both genders at any age. They are however most likely to take place in females during or after pregnancy, birth, miscarriage or abortion. Haemorrhoids are painful swellings. In some cases they will hang out of the anal region giving them the name piles.

There are common symptoms of piles during pregnancy and there are a few reasons why you could suffer from piles during pregnancy.

Your diet needs to be laced with lots of fibre. Diets devoid of fibre will cause constipation and problems with bowel movements. The veins also stretch because of the increase in the size of the womb. This increases the pressure causing imbalance and pile up. High blood pressure will also cause the veins around the anal region to swell and cause piles.

Anusol is considered as one of the best options to be comfortable if you suffer from piles during pregnancy. It is considered a safe option and was designed with pregnant mothers in mind. Pregnancy and piles mostly go hand in hand. Anusol can be used in addition to employing physical methods to be comfortable.

The Anusol cream is easy to apply. It is also safe for the mother during this period and needs no dressing after application. The ointment version however will usually need dressing after application. The cream is said to be effective but not as hygienic as the next method we will highlight.

Suppositories are forms of Anusol that are used during pregnancy by pushing the tablets that are porous up the anus. The method is more hygienic and effective than other remedies. This is probably because of the direct contact and absorption into the piles.

Women’s health has become a popular issue in light of media campaigns for breast, cervical and ovarian cancer and the publication of figures that show that an increasing number of women are developing heart disease.

Common health conditions

Heart disease: heart disease is usually associated with men, but 1 in 7 women in the UNITED KINGDOM die from heart disease and rates of heart disease amongst women are on the rise. The threat of heart disease can be dramatically reduces by adopting a healthy lifestyle but if there is a history of heart disease in your family history then your risk will be higher than usual even if you have led a healthy lifestyle. It is recommended that you attend regular tests so that doctors can monitor your heart and treat any problems early.

Cancer: cancer is a very common condition, with thousands of new cases diagnosed each year in the UNITED KINGDOM. In recent years there have been high-profile media campaigns to raise awareness of female cancers, but many people are still unaware of the symptoms of cancer and consequently their condition may not be diagnosed until it reaches an advanced stage. Early detection and treatment can dramatically improve survival rates so it is essential that you see your doctor if you notice any of the following symptoms or feel that there is something not quite right:

abnormal lumps or swelling

changes in bowel habits

chronic cough

changes in the feel or appearance of moles

abnormal bleeding

persistent bloating (which is not associated with overeating)

abdominal pain

Any doctor advises patients to listen to their bodies, as sometimes obvious symptoms do not appear.

Healthy living

Healthy living is important for good health and includes:

eating well: a good, balanced diet provides the body with all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals it needs to function effectively

sleeping well: getting plenty of sleep is important for physiological and mental health

exercising: exercising has a range of health benefits, as well as being beneficial for emotional and societal wellbeing

having a happy social life

adopting good lifestyle habits such as cutting down on drinking and giving up smoking.

Women’s services

The NHS offers many services, which are aimed at women. Services are controlled by primary health trusts and are based on demand in the area. Examples of women services include:

cancer screening and care services

fertility services

pregnancy and maternity care

urology services

gynaecology services

These days getting medical services can be expensive; the cost of these services depends on the health condition of woman, so having a health insurance cover can protect them from the rising cost of medical services.
